American Airlines is bringing back nonstop flights from Columbus to Los Angeles.
John Glenn Columbus International Airport said Monday that the airline will resume a daily, nonstop flight from the airport to Los Angeles International Airport on March 6.
The airport says nearly 300 people per day fly between Columbus and Los Angeles for business and leisure.
“I am proud of the continuous effort of our air service team working with airlines to expand passenger flight options while we continue planning for our brand new, first-class terminal,” airport CEO Joe Nardone said in a statement.
The airport expects to formally break ground on its $2 billion new terminal project in a few months.
American Airlines previously had two daily, nonstops to Los Angeles, and Spirit Airlines currently offers a flight to Los Angeles.
Other nonstop flights from Columbus to California include summer, weekends only flights by Southwest Airlines to San Diego; United Airlines flights to San Francisco; and summer seasonal flights by Breeze Airways to Orange County.
Airport leaders have for years pushed for more flights to the West Coast.
The restoration of service to Los Angeles comes as record numbers of passengers travel through John Glenn.
The airport said a record 2.58 million passengers came through the airport in June, July and August, and September was the busiest September ever with more than 750,000 passengers.
