The North African outfit will play their first ever show on these shores
Moroccan band Meteor Airlines are set to headline Button Factory with their first-ever Irish show this evening, November 6.
Hailing from Tinghir in the southeast of Morocco, the group was founded in 2016 and is currently producing songs in their mother tongue Tamazight. They also boast a distinct visual identity where they wear Cloaks known as Azennar. Also referred to as ‘burnous’, the unique clothing embodies the band’s visual identity during gigs, representing Meteor Airlines’ style, ethos, and attitude to the world.
On the musical front, their songs vary from calm acoustic tunes to heavier sounds, culminating in a genre they’ve labelled Amazigh Rock, in which the themes are related to Amazigh history, values and customs.
The four-piece are currently hitting the final stretch of their AGDAL tour across the UK and Europe, which began in Edinburgh on October 21. The tour takes its name from their latest album, released in January at the beginning of this year. The title is a term rooted in Amazigh tradition, symbolising an ancient system of sustainable land and water management, echoing the band’s commitment to preserving cultural and natural heritage in the face of climate crisis.
“Through a powerful blend of music, poetry, and striking visuals, Meteor Airlines brings the stories of Morocco’s diverse landscapes to life, from communal oases to the majestic Atlas Mountains,” says manager Rachid Ennassiri. “The AGDAL album serves as a call to action, urging the protection of these vital ecosystems and the cultural legacies they sustain.”
