Russian charter airline Azur Air launched direct seasonal flights to Sri Lanka, with the first flight arriving at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on Wednesday with 332 passengers.
The flight was welcomed by a celebratory water cannon salute organized by Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Pvt) Limited. The passengers were also warmly welcomed with a traditional Kandyan dance performance organized by Sri Lanka Tourism.
This season, Azur Air will be operating B767-300 with a seating capacity of (full flights inbound) 336 (economy class) and will be operating 05 flights per week from 5 cities in Russia.
Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Pvt) Limited said they are expecting around 40,000 Russian tourists in Sri Lanka during the season. (Colombo Gazette)
