Bring a whole new meaning to the phrase “Spirit Animal.”

If you were told that a raccoon fell through the ceiling at an airport, and you had to guess which airline was most closely associated with it, wouldn’t your first guess be Spirit Airlines? Maybe Frontier? All I know is that Hooters Air would have never let this happen.

Regardless, one of nature’s masked bandits is making headlines today after it fell through the tiling above the Spirit Airlines terminal at LaGuardia International Airport in New York. Video captured from someone standing near the incident showed the small animal first falling through the ceiling and hanging from some wires – Mission Impossible style.

At some point, the raccoon fell down to the ground, which sent airline travelers and even Spirit Airline workers running for safety (or at the very least in the opposite direction). Clearly, the raccoon was just as scared as the people were to see it. It ended up seeking refuge behind some partitions before some people at the airport started working to capture the raccoon, but it didn’t go down without a fight.

The video’s caption simply stated:

“A whole raccoon fell through the LaGuardia Airport ceiling in New York.”

Let’s analyze that comment, shall we? Admittedly, a whole raccoon falling through the roofing of an airport isn’t ideal. It makes you wonder (and possibly be slightly concerned about) what else is up in the rafters, chewing on wires and making homes above the place that people depend on to get them from point A to point B.

But having a whole raccoon fall through the ceiling is a lot better than having a portion of a raccoon come bursting through the tiles above and onto the ground. If just a random part of a raccoon came falling out of the sky, then I’d really be concerned. Because that means there’s a good chance an even large animal is running amuck just above the heads of airport visitors.

Did I too critically analyze that caption? Probably so, though I felt I had to find some sort of silver lining in all of this. At least the raccoon – which is at least one of the cuter rodents in the Animal Kingdom – was alive, well, and in one piece when it busted through the ceiling hanging from a wire.

So if you needed a push to not book Spirit Airlines, this viral video might be it. If seeing a raccoon fall through the ceiling of an airline terminal isn’t enough to deter you, may I also add that I once had a Spirit flight canceled – with no real explanation – that caused me to miss out on a trip to a concert at the Sphere in Las Vegas.

I’m sure a lot of people have their own Spirit Airlines horror story though… just not all of them have to do with a raccoon.
