American ultra-low-cost-carrier, Avelo Airlines
, has welcomed it’s 20th aircraft to the carriers fleet. N812VL, a 14 year old Boeing 737-800, has had previous tenures with Sun Express Germany, and GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes
(GOL), before joining the Avelo fleet.
A growing US network
Avelo continues to grow it’s US operations, now with eight operating bases (Burbank, Hartford, Lakeland, New Haven, Orlando, Raleigh/Durham, Santa Rosa, and Wilmington, the carrier services 45 destination with now, 20 Boeing 737 family aircraft. The carrier has eight Boeing 737-700
, with a seating capacity of 147 passengers, and a further 12 Boeing 737-800
, seating 189 passengers. Two more 737-800 are on order, and expected to join the carrier in 2025.

Earlier this year, Avelo publically announced plans to grow it’s narrow-body fleet. Sourcing these aircraft would be from Brazilian airline GOL, Aerolineas Argentinas, and Southwest. With this growth, the airline was able to establish new bases in Hartford, and Lakeland, while commencing 18 new routes, including it’s international services to Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.

A fleet with the average age of 16.9 years
According to data from ch-Aviation, all of Avelo’s aircraft have bee received as second hand. The latest aircraft, N812VL, holds serial number 35836, and recorded it’s first flight date on October 30, 2010 after being built at Boeing’s Renton factory. The aircraft was then delivered to GOL on November 19, that same year under Brazilian registration PR-GUD later that year.

Over the Nothern Hemisphere summers of 2014 and 2015, it is evident the aircraft was borrowed by Sun Express Deutchland (a joint-venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines), where the aircraft operated a number of leisure routes across Europe. Sun Express ceased operations in 2020. Details as per ch-Aviation below:

The aircraft then remained in the GOL fleet up until this year, where it has now been acquired by Avelo Airlines under a lease agreement from Carlisle Aviation Partners. The 14 year old aircraft is powered by two CFMI CFM56-7B26 engines.

Passengers onboard Avelo airlines can expect a no-frills service, with food and drinks available for purchase. The carrier encourages passengers to pre-charge their own devices as there is no on-board charge facilities in flight, but you can watch your downloaded movies or films on your own device, and sit back and relax while you are whisked off to your final destination.
