LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Allegiant Airlines pilots have voted to authorize a strike, the Teamsters union shared Thursday.

Teamsters Local 2118 represents 1,300 pilots with the low-cost US carriers. The pilots voted to authorize the strike by 97.4%

The union and airlines are currently engaged in negotiations, but a strike could be called if an agreement is not reached.

In a statement to FOX5, Allegiant Airlines said in part:

“We are committed to the negotiating process through the National Mediation Board and hope our pilots’ union is committed as well.”

Last year, Allegiant Airlines ratified a two-year extension on the pilots’ contract agreement, which included heavy maintenance technicians, store employees, and administrative staff.
