Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) has officially launched direct
flights to Male, the capital of the Republic of Maldives. The
inaugural flight touched down at Velana International Airport on
November 9, marking a significant milestone in enhancing travel
connections between Azerbaijan and the Maldives,
Azernews reports.
The passengers and flight crew were greeted with traditional
garlands, symbolizing the warm hospitality and friendly relations
between the two nations. Jamil Manizadeh, the chief commercial
administrator of AZAL, expressed excitement about the new route,
stating, “We are happy to start direct regular flights from Baku to
Male. These flights create new opportunities for travelers who wish
for a paradise vacation. The Azerbaijani market has long needed
more options for winter tourism, and the Maldives is one of the
most popular destinations in the world this season.”
Ibrahim Shiuri, executive director of the Marketing and Public
Relations Corporation of the Republic of Maldives, welcomed AZAL’s
new route, adding, “We are pleased to welcome Azerbaijan Airlines
to the Maldives. New direct flights will give travelers from
Azerbaijan the opportunity to discover the unparalleled beauty of
our islands.”
Mohammad Mihad, Chief Commercial Director of Maldives Airports
Company Limited, noted, “AZAL’s direct flights from Baku are an
important milestone for Velana International Airport. This route
creates an important connection between Central Asia and the
Maldives and provides Azerbaijani tourists visiting our mysterious
islands with unhindered connections and wide travel
opportunities.”
Starting from November 9, regular flights between Baku and Male
will operate twice a week, on Mondays and Saturdays. Tickets for
the flights are available for purchase through the official AZAL
website, the airline’s mobile app, AZAL ticket offices, and
accredited agencies.
