Azerbaijan Airlines begin direct flight operations to the Maldives on Saturday ahead of the year’s winter season.

The first flight of the airlines landed at Velana International Airport (VIA) on Saturday where the arrivals were serenaded with a traditional Maldivian folklore dance and drum routine.

Azerbaijan Airlines will operate two weekly flights regularly from the country’s capital Baku to VIA directly, which lasts for six hours approximately. The airline will be utilizing Boeing 737 Dreamliner aircraft for its Maldives route operations.

Azerbaijan’s flagship carrier is the latest international airline to launch direct flight operations to the Maldives poised with complimenting the arrival numbers, which is already ahead of last year’s corresponding period’s figures.

Notable international airlines with direct flight operations to the Maldives include the recent launch of scheduled flights from United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) Air Arabia. The airline will be operating from Sharjah International Airport to VIA and vice versa.
