This baby was air-born!
A passenger traveling through Miami International Airport in Miami, Florida gave birth in the departures area on Tuesday with the help of employees from multiple agencies.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reportedly received a medical call at the airport and arrived on the scene just after 5 p.m., 7 News Miami reported.
The unidentified female traveler’s water had broken and she had started giving birth in the presecurity area of an American Airlines terminal.
According to 911 dispatch recordings, the dispatcher reported a “pregnant female” and “possible miscarriage outside of Door 3 departures.”
“Rescue 40 copy, en route,” responded a fire official.
When the medics arrived, Miami-Dade Police Department officers, agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Miami-Dade Airport Division staff were already helping, the Miami Herald reported.
Shortly thereafter, she gave birth to a baby boy. Footage shared by 7 News shows the woman on the ground clutching a blanket-swaddled newborn in her arms while being attended to by multiple responders.
“We got a boy!” exclaimed a nearby officer.
The woman and her son were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital, according to Fire Rescue representative Helen Avendano, who said she could not provide any more information due to patient privacy laws.
While the airport is certainly an extreme environment for giving birth, the new mother is perhaps lucky that nature’s miracle occurred on the ground and not in the air like some other cases.
In one of the more memorable onboard births in March, a pilot left the cockpit to help deliver a baby while en route to Thailand.
