An aircraft of Southwest Airlines was hit by gunfire while taking off from an airport in the US city of Dallas on Friday (Nov 15). The incident happened at the Dallas Love Field Airport in the US state of Texas.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), “While taxiing for takeoff at Dallas Love Field Airport, Southwest Airlines Flight 2494 was reportedly struck by gunfire near the cockpit around 8.30 pm local time.”
“The Boeing 737-800 returned to the gate, where passengers deplaned. The flight was headed to Indianapolis International Airport. Contact local authorities and airport security for more on the investigation,” the FAA said in a statement.
‘No injuries were reported’
In a statement, the Dallas Love Field Airport said on Saturday that no injuries were reported, and there was minimal impact on airport operations.
“On Friday night, Dallas Police responded to a security incident involving a commercial aircraft at Dallas Love Field Airport,” the statement added. The airport said that the runway was briefly closed but has since reopened.
Another incident reported on a Southwest Airlines flight
Another incident was reported on a Southwest Airlines Flight on Friday.
The FAA said, “Passengers evacuated Southwest Airlines Flight 3316 while it was parked at the gate at Denver International Airport around 7 a.m. local time on Friday, November 15, after the crew reported a cell phone caught on fire.”
“Passengers in the front half of the plane exited through the jet bridge. Passengers in the rear half of the plane exited using slides. The Boeing 737 was headed to William P. Hobby Airport in Houston. The FAA will investigate. Contact the airline for additional information,” the agency further said.
