It’s unfortunate but 2024 has been incredibly tough on several industries. From family restaurants to big chain retail stores, several business have been forced into bankruptcy, restructuring, or even closing down completely.

Spirit Airlines Announces Bankruptcy

By now, you’ve probably heard the news about Spirit Airlines declaring bankruptcy… or “restructuring” as they’re calling it. According to their press release from yesterday:

The restructuring is expected to reduce Spirit’s debt, provide increased financial flexibility, position Spirit for long-term success and accelerate investments providing Guests with enhanced travel experiences and greater value.

All things considered, the folks over at Spirit are seemingly in “good spirits” about the restructure… at least according to Spirit President and Chief Executive Officer, Ted Christie.

“I am pleased we have reached an agreement with a supermajority of both our loyalty and convertible bondholders on a comprehensive recapitalization of the Company, which is a strong vote of confidence in Spirit and our long-term plan,” Christie said.

But, What Does This Mean For Spirit Airline Customers?

We’re approaching one of the busiest travel times of the year with TripAdvisor reporting that 57% of Americans plan on traveling this year with as many as 96% responding to a survey that they’ll travel as much, if not more than last winter.
