Allegiant Airlines will add nonstop flights from Jacksonville International Airport to Akron, Ohio; Des Moines, Iowa; and Grand Rapids, Michigan, the discount carrier announced Tuesday.
- Flights to Akron-Canton Airport will begin May 22 and operate on Thursdays and Sundays.
- Flights to Grand Rapids Gerald R. Ford International Airport will begin May 23 on Mondays and Fridays.
- Flights to Des Moines International Airport also will start May 23 on Thursdays and Sundays.
All three markets will receive year-round service.
“Allegiant has grown considerably through the years in Jacksonville, and their low fares offer travelers the opportunity to visit our wonderful community, while offering Northeast Floridians the opportunity to visit some of their favorite places in the Midwest,” Jacksonville Aviation Authority CEO Mark VanLoh said in a news release.
The Jacksonville flights are part of a larger expansion across the country. The airline, based in Las Vegas, announced 44 new nonstop flights a day after Spirit Airlines, another discount carrier, filed for bankruptcy.
Allegiant said the new flights were one of the largest expansions in its history.
