Bullet strikes Southwest Airlines plane without injuries at Dallas airport

A bullet struck the body of a Southwest Airlines airplane preparing for departure from a Dallas airport Friday, forcing the cancellation of the evening flight. The airline says no injuries were reported and law enforcement was contacted after the bullet struck the right side of the aircraft just under the flight deck around 8:30 p.m. The crew of Flight 2494 was preparing the plane for departure from Dallas Love Field Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration says the Boeing 737-800 aircraft was “struck by gunfire near the cockpit” while taxiing before the flight to Indianapolis International Airport. The airline says it provided another flight for passengers and the aircraft was removed from service. The airport says the runway was temporarily closed.

Dwayne Johnson’s $200 million-plus Christmas pic opens to $34.1 million

The big budget, star-driven action comedy “Red One” is topping the North American box office charts. The Christmas-themed movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans earned an estimated $34.1 million in ticket sales this weekend. It cost over $200 million to produce. Overall profitability of the Amazon release may never be fully known given its streaming prospects. This weekend’s box office results are a bit of a placeholder until the major Thanksgiving tentpoles like “Gladiator II,” “Wicked” and “Moana 2” start flooding theaters next week. Second place this week went to “Venom 3,” followed by “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” “Heretic” and “The Wild Robot.”

How a viral, duct-taped banana came to be worth $1 million

Walk into any supermarket and you can usually buy a banana for less than $1. But a banana duct-taped to a wall? That might sell for more than $1 million at an upcoming auction at Sotheby’s in New York. The yellow banana fixed to a white wall with silver duct tape is an artwork entitled “Comedian,” by Maurizio Cattelan. It debuted at the Art Basel Miami Beach fair in 2019. “Comedian” is expected to fetch between $1 million and $1.5 million at the Nov. 20 auction. Bidders won’t be buying the same fruit that was on display in Miami. Those bananas are long gone. Sotheby’s says the fruit always was meant to be replaced regularly.
