The local arm of a Swiss airline food company is laying off over 100 workers.
Gate Gourmet’s St. Louis unit will let go of 102 employees by or on January 29, 2025. Positions include food prepares, porters, mangers and chefs, according to a Nov. 15 notice filed with the state released Friday.
In a statement, Gate Gourmet attributed these cuts to business conditions and said that it hopes to regrow the business in St. Louis.
The company did not immediately respond to emails about how many people currently work at the site.
Gate Gourmet is one of the industry’s largest airline catering companies. According to parent company Gategroup’s website, Gate Gourmet is in 33 countries with over 135 units. The St. Louis location is situated near the St. Louis Lambert International Airport at 8725 Scudder Road.

Previously, Gate Gourmet has come under fire for serving contaminated carrots which caused traveler food poisoning and for violations discovered by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration at its Kentucky facility. In a 2018 letter, the department cited “apparent cockroach activity,” heavy build-up of grease and food waste on equipment and surfaces, food residue on can openers and more at the facility.
According to the St. Louis County website, Gate Gourmet’s St. Louis food facility has seen no glaring violations in its recent routine health inspections.
