On November 24, a Sukhoi Superjet 100 (RA-89085) operated by Azimuth Airlines caught fire following a rough landing at Antalya Airport. The aircraft, carrying 89 passengers and six crew members, was performing flight AZO5051 from Sochi when the incident occurred.

The fire reportedly began near the left engine after the aircraft experienced a wind shear during its approach. Azimuth Airlines’ press office confirmed that the landing was rough due to sudden wind changes, with gusts reaching up to 14.4 m/s (32 mph).

Upon touchdown, the aircraft experienced a severe double bounce, commonly referred to as “bunny hopping,” followed by a hard impact with the runway. This impact caused the left main landing gear to collapse, driving it into the wing structure and igniting a fire near the left engine.

Emergency responders quickly extinguished the fire, and all passengers and crew were evacuated safely. No injuries have been reported. Representatives from the Russian consulate and Azimuth Airlines are currently assisting passengers.

Preliminary investigations suggest that pilot error may have contributed to the rough landing. Aviation authorities are examining the incident to determine the exact sequence of events and contributing factors.
