With the commencement of winter, the news of delays in flights taking off from many airports of the country is quite common due to fog.

Govt Orders Airlines To Cancel Flight If Delayed By More Than 3 Hours

Looking Forward For Passenger Convenience

All these news are mostly coming from the North of the country where visibility becomes zero due to fog in winters.

Pertaining to the situation, flights get delayed, causing passengers a lot of  trouble.

But, now it won’t happen as the Aviation Minister has given strict instructions to the airlines regarding flight delays.

It appears that the Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu had a review meeting regarding fog preparations.

Further, he asked the airline companies that if there is a delay in the flight, then correct information should be given to the passengers about it, during this meeting.

If a flight is delayed by more than three hours, then it should be cancelled, he said.

Further, the Union Minister gave several clear instructions to the airlines regarding the safety and convenience of the passengers.

According to him, all the staff should be present at the check-in counter so that the passengers do not face any problems.

“Preparations for managing the challenges related to visibility this winter are moving in the right direction. Also, good progress has been made in removing the problems faced in this,” the Civil Aviation Ministry added.

Asked To Install LED Screens

Moving ahead, if a flight is delayed or cancelled due to low visibility, passengers should be given complete and accurate information about it, as mentioned in the release.

Besides this, the release also said that the Delhi Airport operator DIAL has been advised to install LED screens at prominent places.

This will help the passengers to get information about the visibility status in real time.

Following DGCA’s instructions

The airline companies have confirmed that they will follow DGCA’s guidelines regarding deployment of aircraft and pilots as per CAT 2 and 3 for Delhi and other airports, as per the release.

So far, out of the four runways of Delhi Airport, three have CAT 3 ILS (Instrument Landing System).

It appears that the flights can take off from here even if there is low visibility.

What Happens If the Flight is Cancelled?

In the case of flight cancellations, the airlines should provide many facilities to the passengers. It includes options including reimbursement, another flight,  food and accommodation.

For the reimbursement, the passenger can take full payment of the ticket from the airline.

The other option is to provide another flight with no additional charges from passengers.

In case If the second offered flight is delayed then it is the responsibility of the airline to arrange food and hotel accommodation for the passenger.

Please note here that no money is taken for this either.
