Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL) plans to introduce regular flights between Baku and Zurich in 2026, announced the airline’s President, Samir Rzayev, during a meeting with Swiss Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Thomas Stahli.

The new route marks a significant step in strengthening the ties between Azerbaijan and Switzerland. Ambassador Stahli welcomed the initiative, emphasizing its potential to enhance bilateral relations. “The rising number of visa applications from Azerbaijani citizens demonstrates the growing interest and connection between our countries,” he noted.

Beyond aviation, the meeting covered broader topics of mutual interest, including the COP29 climate conference recently hosted by Azerbaijan. The two officials explored collaborative environmental protection and sustainability approaches, underscoring the importance of aligning transportation initiatives with global climate goals.

This new route is expected to boost trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between Azerbaijan and Switzerland, reflecting the nations’ shared commitment to deepening their partnership.
