Qantas Airlines from Australia is going to set a new record. As part of Project Sunrise, 22-hour non-stop flights from Australia to Western Europe and the US East Coast will begin in 2026. This route will be the longest scheduled air journey in history.
Qantas plans to implement the project using modified Airbus A350-1000 ULR aircraft. These aircraft are equipped with additional fuel tanks, which the European Aviation Safety Agency approved in July 2023. Earlier, the start of the project was delayed due to delays in aircraft deliveries and the need to certify new technical solutions.
The Airbus A350-1000 ULR will seat around 240 passengers in four classes.
The cabins are equipped with an optimal lighting system to help reduce the effects of jet lag. There will also be a “health zone” for exercise and an area with drinks and snacks.
The first flight under the new project is scheduled for mid-2026.
