The Japanese carrier’s “JAL Same-day Delivery Service” will be available to all “foreign tourists” arriving into Terminal 3. The idea behind the delivery service is to enable arriving travelers to enjoy Tokyo without hauling around heavy baggage, particularly on their first day transferring from the airport to hotel. This way, passengers have more freedom to explore the city knowing that their baggage will arrive safely at their hotel. As explained by the airline,

The service aims to provide a seamless and stress-free travel experience by ensuring that tourists can enjoy their time in Tokyo without the burden of carrying heavy luggage.

It will also help address what the airline deems the “social issue” of Tokyo’s overcrowded public transportation systems and a shortage of luggage storage lockers. The city’s public transport network are famously overstrained, and this can be made significantly worse if traveling with large baggage.

JAL’s service is available at a cost of 4,500 yen ($29.50) per item of baggage measuring a total of 160 cm or less for the sum of its three dimensions and weighing no more than 20 kg. Compared to third-party baggage delivery firms, sending your bags at a cost of less than $30 per item is reasonably priced.
