American Airlines has seen several problematic incidents over the last couple of months. In November, a passenger tried to open the cabin door mid-flight. Thankfully, passengers united, and were able to contain the individual.

In this case, there was no containing the flooded toilet… The result saw water making its way through the aircraft. A passenger posted the footage on TikTok, and was able to keep a sense of humor over the situation despite the stress involved for other passengers.

We can say this is a new fear unlocked… During a flight from Dallas to Minneapolis on December 7th, passengers were in for quite a scare as an American Airlines flight was flooded midair. According to The New York Post, a passenger revealed the flood took place after a woman used the bathroom. She notified the flight attendant about the leak, but the crew wasn’t able to make it stop.

At the very least, this TikTok user had a sense of humor about it. @4blaz on TikTok posted footage of the leak with Céline Dion’s iconic, My Heart Will Go On theme in the background. The TikTok user wrote in his caption, “Inflight movie was Titanic.”

Hilary Stewart Blazevic was onboard the flight, and admits passengers were in a panic when the water wouldn’t shut off.

“It was utter disbelief and a little panic realizing they can’t shut off the water.”

Most of the passengers took their belongings off the floor during the flood to avoid further damage.

Users On TikTok Had Several Different Reactions To The American Airlines Flood

As expected, users had a lot to say on TikTok, with more than 1,700 comments. Some of the users had already experienced something similar on a prior flight.

Users wrote:

  • “Had it happen so bad coming back from Costa Rica, we had to land in Orlando instead of Boston. Then they wouldn’t let us off for 2 hours because of customs.”
  • “No way I’m landing with my bag under the seat in this case.”
  • “I always put my underseat bag in a trash bag. People spill drinks and bathroom leaks happen. People are amazed when they see me do that. Always”

United Airlines Saw A Flood Of Its Own Back In October Due To The Lavatory Toilet

This type of malfunction happens a lot more than most travelers know. In early October, a similar incident took place on a United flight from Charleston to Denver. This time, the passenger didn’t know there was a flood at the back of the plane coming out of the lavatory. The result: a broken laptop.

The passenger claims he was offered miles instead of cash.

“@united offered 5000 miles for breaking my $1200 laptop in a toilet flood have not even gotten miles.”

The X user claims they were still waiting for compensation days later.

“United said they are now sending a check again, and it will come within 21 days. They did not disclose the amount or note how not having a computer is impacting my work and ability to make money.”

Yikes…
