According to ch-aviation, United Airlines
has 107 Boeing 737 MAX 8s in its fleet. The airline is expecting delivery of another 19 aircraft before its MAX 8 fleet is complete. The MAX 8 joined United’s fleet in January 2019, when the airline received the first two of the type the same day.
The most recent delivery took place on November 25. The newest MAX 8 is registered as N17358. The first commercial flight the MAX 8 operated was from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport
(SEA) to Newark on November 30.
These new aircraft are being delivered from the factory with the new, United NEXT Signature Interior, which features inflight entertainment screens at every seat, Bluetooth connectivity, larger overhead bins, and mood lighting. The planes that were delivered before the new interiors were introduced will be retrofitted in the near future.

The flight was scheduled to depart at 13:30 that day but left Seattle nearly four hours late. Since joining the United fleet, N17358 has operated most of its flights in the United States but has gone overseas a few times.
On December 7, N17358 operated a three-hour, thirty-four-minute flight to Nassau in the Bahamas. It returned from Nassau to Newark. Two days later, it flew a roundtrip from Newark to Bermuda. Then, two days ago, the plane flew a roundtrip to San Pedro Sula in Mexico from United’s Texas hub at George Bush Intercontinental Airport
(IAH).
Data from Cirium, an aviation analytics firm, shows there are 4,178 flights on MAX 8s out of Newark Liberty International Airport
(EWR) this month. Of these, six routes are operated thrice daily or greater. These routes are below:
- Newark – Palm Beach
- Newark – Fort Lauderdale
- Newark – Orlando
- Newark – Tampa
- Newark – Fort Myers
- Newark – Las Vegas
Newark – Palm Beach
United’s busiest MAX 8 route from Newark is to Palm Beach International Airport (PBI), located in the northern part of the Miami metropolitan area. PBI serves as the primary airport for Palm Beach and was formerly an Air Force base. The flight from EWR to PBI is 1,024 miles long and operated up to eight times daily in December.

The data above is only for MAX 8 flights, but United has more flights to Palm Beach, using other aircraft. In December, United has 270 roundtrips (540 flights), and more than 91,000 seats available. On the busiest days of the month, there are 10 roundtrips and more than 3,300 seats available.
Although the MAX 8 is the most-used aircraft by United, the airline also deploys its Boeing 737 MAX 9s and Boeing 737-900ERs to Palm Beach. JetBlue competes with United on the route, offering three daily flights on its Airbus A320s. With 179 flights, JetBlue has just over 28,000 seats available.
Newark – Fort Lauderdale
The second-busiest MAX route is also to the Sunshine State, and to an airport less than 50 miles away from PBI by car. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is the Miami area’s secondary airport, and is extremely busy. This month, United has nearly 400 flights just on the MAX 8 to FLL.

The flight to FLL is 1,065 miles, 41 miles longer than the flight to PBI. There 194 flights from Newark to Fort Lauderdale, and 195 flights on the return. On 389 flights, United has 64,574 seats available.
In addition to using its MAX 8s for flights to FLL, United deploys three other aircraft types:
- Boeing 737-900ER
- Boeing 757-200
- Boeing 737 MAX 9
Cirium shows that United has 550 total flights and more than 83,000 seats available between Newark and Fort Lauderdale. United is one of three airlines operating flights between Newark and Fort Lauderdale. Like to Palm Beach, JetBlue is a competitor, but Spirit Airlines flies this route. But the two competitors combined do not have the same number of flights as United.
Spirit Airlines has 121 roundtrips in December, offering more than 43,000 seats, which is just over half the number of seats offered by United. JetBlue has the smallest market share, with 216 total flights and almost 35,000 seats.
Newark – Orlando
As the list above shows, five of the six routes talked about in this article are to Florida. At number three is the route to Orlando International Airport (MCO), the major airport serving the world’s theme park capital. Because of the theme parks and its desirable, warm weather, Orlando is a popular destination year-round.
Cirium shows that United has 278 flights on the 938-mile route in December. There are 131 flights departing Newark and 147 flights in the opposite direction. With up to five daily roundtrips, there are 1,660 available seats on the busiest days. There are 46,148 seats available this month.

The MAX 8 is not the only plane United deploys to Orlando from Newark. Cirium shows there are 371 roundtrips in December, reaching 12 daily flights and more than 4,000 seats. The 737-90ER, 757-200, and MAX 9 are also used on the route.
Like to Fort Lauderdale, United faces competition from Spirit and JetBlue. But again, United has more flights than its competitors combined. JetBlue has the second-largest market share or Orlando, with nearly 160 roundtrips and more than 49,000 seats. Spirit has about 109 roundtrips and about 39,000 seats.
All airlines combined have 1,277 flights and 218,165 seats available.
Newark – Tampa
Tampa International Airport (TPA), which is located on the west side of Florida, is connected to Newark on United up to six times daily. The flight to Tampa is 998 miles and blocked out at about three hours for the southbound journey. Data shows that the route was busier yesterday, and operations are slowly reduced for the holidays.
From Newark, United has 120 flights, but in the opposite direction, there are only 105. With 225 flights, United has 37,350 seats available.

United deploys the same aircraft to Tampa that it does to Orlando. The MAX 8 has the most flights, but the -900ERs are used very frequently, as well as the 757-200. In all, United has 246 roundtrips and more than 84,000 seats available.
JetBlue is the only airline competing with United to Tampa, but its operations are nearly five times smaller than United’s. Cirium shows that JetBlue has 51 roundtrips and just under 16,000 seats available in December. The New York-based carrier uses its Airbus A320s for its Tampa flights.

Fort Myers is also located on the west side of Florida, but south of Tampa. The airport in Fort Myers is Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), which served more than 10 million passengers in 2023. In December, United has up to five daily roundtrips, but on many days, the number of flights in each direction is not the same.
Cirium shows there are only 91 flights departing Newark, but 103 flights in the opposite direction. With 194 flights, there are 32,204 seats available between Newark and Fort Myers.

United operates two other aircraft types to Fort Myers, the -900ER and MAX 9. The -900ERs are scheduled for over 100 flights, while the MAX 9s are scheduled for just 48.
JetBlue is United’s only competitor on the EWR-RSW route, but has less than four times the number of flights United has. Cirium shows there are 443 flights between the two airports in December, with more than 75,000 seats. Only 165 of these are JetBlue flights.
JetBlue primarily uses the A320 on the route, but has one scheduled flight on the Airbus A220-300.
Newark – Las Vegas
The last route on this list is the only one not to the state of Florida. In fact, it is significantly longe than the other routes and is to Sin City, in the state of Nevada. United is scheduled to deploy its MAX 8s 91 times in each direction in December.
The flight from Newark to Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) is 2,227 miles long. On its busiest days, there are four roundtrips, and operations begin to slow down around Christmas. For the rest of the year, most days will only have two daily flights, with December 28 being the exception, with three flights.

Spirit Airlines is the only airline competing with United on the Las Vegas route. But, United has nearly four times as many flights than Spirit. Data shows there are 518 flights between the two airports in December, and United has 414 of them.
United has 207 roundtrips and more than 71,000 seats available. Spirit has 52 roundtrips and just over 20,000 seats available. The MAX 8 is not even the most-used aircraft by United between EWR and LAS, the 757-200 is, by one flight. United also deploys its -900ERs and MAX 9s.
Spirit uses multiple aircraft types on this route:
- Airbus A320
- Airbus A321
- Airbus A321neo
