After a brief outage, American Airlines says service has resumed for travelers flying during one of the busiest seasons of the year.
Shortly after 7 a.m., as holiday travelers scramble to make it home for Christmas or Hanukkah, American Airlines grounded all flights nationwide, according to ABC News.
The airline noted that a “technical issue” arose on Christmas Eve morning and grounded the planes.

Why is my American Airlines flight grounded?
American Airlines posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that a technical issue with all American Airlines flights occurred preventing the take-off of all planes.
“We’re currently experiencing a technical issue with all American Airlines flights. Your safety is our utmost priority, once this is rectified, we’ll have you safely on your way to your destination,” the account posted.
How long will American Airlines flights be grounded?
The Federal Aviation Administration lifted its nationwide groundstop order for all American flights. In a statement, the FAA said American requested a nationwide ground stop but it referred all questions to the airline for more information.
“We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience,” American Airlines said in a statement.
