SEATTLE — A female passenger took an unexpected route off an Alaska Airlines flight after landing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Sunday evening.
At approximately 5 p.m. on December 22, the Port of Seattle emergency dispatch was alerted to an incident at gate N9 involving Alaska Airlines flight 323, according to Perry Cooper, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Media Relations Manager.
Cooper stated that during the deplaning process, the woman, feeling “anxious,” opened the emergency exit over the wing. The passenger, still in a heightened state of anxiety, climbed out onto the wing of the aircraft.
Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene. The Port of Seattle Fire team helped the passenger safely off the wing and onto the ramp. The Port Police crisis team also responded, eventually deciding to send the passenger to the hospital for evaluation.
Cooper assured that no injuries were reported, and the incident did not affect airport operations.
An Alaska Airlines spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating, “The matter was safely resolved. We are working with our crew and airport officials to gather more details about what may have transpired. We thank our employees for their swift response and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our guests.”
The unusual incident has since drawn attention online, but officials have emphasized that the situation was handled swiftly and without further complications.
