First Indian airline to offer in-flight Wi-Fi services for domestic flyers
Air India has made history as the first airline in India to provide in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity on domestic routes, starting January 1, 2025. This groundbreaking service is available on select aircraft, including Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and specific Airbus A321neo models. Passengers can now enjoy complimentary internet access during their journey, transforming the travel experience.
The new service caters to both leisure and business travelers by enabling them to browse the internet, use social media, work online, or stay connected with family and friends. This significant step positions Air India as a leader in the Indian aviation industry, enhancing its offerings to meet modern travelers’ needs.
A Step Towards Modern Travel
Rajesh Dogra, Air India’s Chief Customer Experience Officer, highlighted the importance of connectivity during travel. “Connectivity is now an integral part of modern travel. For some, it is about convenience and real-time sharing, while for others, it’s about productivity and efficiency,” he said. Dogra expressed confidence that passengers would appreciate the new in-flight Wi-Fi feature as part of their enhanced Air India experience.
How the Service Works
The Wi-Fi service supports various devices, including laptops, smartphones, and tablets, running iOS or Android. Passengers can connect multiple devices simultaneously for uninterrupted access throughout their flight. Connecting to the service is simple:
Enable Wi-Fi on your device.
Select the ‘Air India Wi-Fi’ network.
Enter your PNR and last name on the Air India portal.
Enjoy free internet access during the flight.
Global Success and Future Plans
This rollout on domestic flights follows a successful trial on international routes to cities like New York, London, Paris, and Singapore. Initially free on domestic flights, Air India plans to expand the service across its fleet over time.
While the service depends on factors like satellite connectivity and government regulations, Air India’s initiative marks a significant milestone in Indian aviation. By introducing in-flight Wi-Fi, the airline reinforces its commitment to innovation and enhancing customer satisfaction, ensuring passengers can stay connected even at 35,000 feet.
