Colombo, January 6 (Daily Mirror) – The new government which abandoned the previous government’s plan on SriLankan Airlines has now asked its authorities to submit proposals for the development of the national carrier in five years, an informed source said.
The last government planned initially to privatise the cash-strapped airline but scrapped it later. That government also planned for the exploration of alternate approaches to develop the airline.
The new government which was formed after the presidential election on September 21, 2024 decided to develop the airline without privatising it.
The source said a business plan had been sought to develop the airline instead of privatising it.
SriLankan Airlines managed to move towards the positive territory, as it recorded a profit for the nine months ended December 31.2023. The airline reported a profit of Rs.1.124 billion for the nine months ended December 31, 2023, the 2023 budget position report showed.
