Lufthansa Group has announced plans to launch a massive recruitment drive in 2025, opening up around 10,000 new job opportunities across its global operations. The Cologne-headquartered aviation giant, which encompasses passenger airlines like Austrian Airlines, Swiss, and Brussels Airlines, as well as aviation services subsidiaries like Lufthansa Technik, aims to grow its workforce by approximately 10%.

The new positions will span various roles, including flight crew, technical staff, ground staff, and pilots. This expansion comes as the group’s workforce, currently numbering 100,000 employees across 90 countries, prepares to meet the demands of growing operations and new routes.

Recruitment Breakdown

According to a press release, Lufthansa Group’s hiring plans for 2025 include:

  • 2,000 stewards and stewardesses
  • 2,000 technical staff for Lufthansa Technik
  • 1,400 ground staff
  • 800 pilots

Individual airlines within the group, such as Austrian Airlines and Eurowings, will each recruit approximately 700 employees. However, more than half of the new positions will be based in Germany, a decision that may stir some controversy. This is partly due to Lufthansa’s cost-saving “Turnaround” efficiency program, which has limited the airline’s own recruitment to 1,200 operational roles.

Brussels Airlines to Gain 360 New Employees

Brussels Airlines, Belgium’s flag carrier, will see a significant boost in staffing, with plans to add 360 new employees—an increase of over 10% to its current workforce. According to spokesperson Nico Cardone, the recruitment is essential to support the airline’s expanding operations, which include new long-haul routes and the introduction of additional aircraft.

“The growth in operations necessitates a robust increase in personnel to maintain our service standards and safety,” Cardone stated. In mid-2024, Brussels Airlines launched a six-times-weekly route to Nairobi, marking its 24th African destination and underscoring its commitment to long-haul expansion.

Roles at Brussels Airlines

The new positions at Brussels Airlines will primarily focus on operational roles, including:

  • Over 50 flight attendants
  • More than 60 airport staff
  • 50 pilots
  • 45 maintenance staff
  • 20 back-office workers

These additions will help the airline sustain its growth and meet the increasing demands of its operations.

Growing Demand Fuels Hiring

Lufthansa Group’s recruitment drive reflects the broader recovery and growth in the aviation industry, as airlines scale up to accommodate increased travel demand. With new routes, expanded fleets, and heightened operational needs, the group is set to create a significant impact on the global job market.

For aspiring aviation professionals, these openings represent an opportunity to join one of the world’s leading aviation companies during an exciting period of growth and innovation.
