Germany’s flagship airline, the Lufthansa Group, has announced an ambitious plan to hire 10,000 new employees in 2025.

The hiring drive is aimed at bolstering its workforce across key operational roles. This news comes despite the airline facing significant labour disputes and financial challenges in recent years, plus a growing trend of German flight cuts.

Lufthansa’s major recruitment plans for 2025

The following job vacancies are being posted on Lufthansa’s careers site:

  • Flight attendants
  • Ground operations staff
  • Technical experts
  • Pilots
  • Administrative workers.

More than half of these hires will be based in Germany, showcasing Lufthansa’s strong operational base in its home country.

Additionally, subsidiaries such as Brussels Airlines, Austrian Airlines, and Eurowings are actively expanding their teams. Brussels Airlines alone aims to onboard 360 new employees, with a focus on stewards, pilots, ground staff, and administrative roles.

The recruitment aligns with Lufthansa’s ongoing “Efficiency Program Turnaround,” designed to optimise operations and control costs. Although the hiring plan is ambitious, it is more conservative compared to 2024, when the Group added a record 13,000 employees. Over the last three years, Lufthansa has welcomed over 30,000 new hires across its global operations.

Michael Niggemann, Lufthansa Group Executive Board Member for Human Resources & Legal Affairs, emphasised the company’s attractiveness as an employer. “The Lufthansa Group is and remains an attractive employer with many different job profiles and career options,” he stated, as reported by Aviation24.be.

Lufthansa’s labour disputes

Lufthansa’s recruitment push comes against the backdrop of labour disputes that cost the company an estimated €450 million in 2024. Rising costs and increased competition have also strained its finances. Despite these hurdles, the company employs over 100,000 people across 90 countries, maintaining its reputation as a global leader in aviation.
