CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – As a Winter storm continues to move across the Carolinas on Friday hundreds of flights were canceled at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

With the winter weather moving into Charlotte, American Airlines has stated that they are reducing their schedule at the airport.

American Airlines states that safely caring for their customers has been their main focus.

You can see the full statement below:

American Airlines has significantly reduced its schedule at Charlotte Douglas Airport (CLT) today due to winter weather conditions that are expected to make it difficult for airlines to safely operate. Leading up to and throughout this storm, safely caring for our customers has been our singular focus. Our team in Charlotte — and across our airline — is working around the clock and braving the conditions to support our customers and keep our airline moving, and we apologize for the inconvenience this winter weather is causing.

  • American and its deicing vendor are fully staffed with enough deicing fluid available for the operation.
  • The length of time that deicing fluid is effective is greatly reduced in the sleet and freezing rain conditions that are forecast in CLT this afternoon and overnight. Based on forecast, we anticipate there will be periods throughout the day that we are unable to depart aircraft at all.
  • American issued a travel alert earlier this week that covers CLT and nearly 50 other airports, providing customers additional flexibility in their travel plans. That travel notice is in effect through Sunday, Jan. 12.
