Frontier Airlines
has reportedly expanded a codeshare partnership with the Mexican low-cost carrier Volaris. As part of the agreement, two low-cost airlines will cover four new routes between the United States and Mexico, according to a report by Aeroroutes.
The news comes almost a year after both budget airlines resumed their codeshare partnership in order to offer better connectivity in the US-Mexico market.
Four codeshare routes
According to the report, Frontier and Volaris will be sharing flight codes on routes between:
- Los Cabos Airport (SJD) and Oakland (OAK), California
- Monterrey International Airport (MTY) and Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), Texas
- Monterrey International Airport (MTY) and Houston (IAH), Texas
- Monterrey International Airport (MTY) and Miami International Airport (MIA), Florida
These codeshare flights will operate throughout the summer of 2025, with a gradual start beginning on March 20, 2025. All four routes will be operated by Volaris, but customers will be able to book the flights through the Frontier Arirlines webpage.

The US-Mexico air travel market
The US-Mexico air travel market is one of the busiest international routes, driven by tourism, business travel, and familial connections. Before being displaced by the UK-Spain pair, the US-Mexico was the top country pair in the aviation market. Mexico regained the US Federal Aviation Administration FAA

Indeed, the market experienced a downturn during the global COVID-19 pandemic, but it has rebounded strongly with robust recovery in both leisure and business travel segments.
The US-Mexico aviation market is dynamic, with 70% of the key carriers made up of low-cost carriers. Currently, US carriers like American Airlines, United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and Delta Air Lines, alongside Mexican carriers such as Aeroméxico, Volaris, and Viva Aerobus, dominate the market.
