Shara Magomedov has taken time away from his latest fight camp to defend Khabib Nurmagomedov.
‘Bullet’ is due to face Michael ‘Venom’ Page in an eagerly anticipated middleweight clash set to take place in Saudi Arabia on February 1.
However, he’s temporarily dragged himself away from training to join a wave of fans angrily reacting to UFC Khabib Nurmagomedov’s recent treatment on Frontier Airlines flight.
‘The Eagle’ was deemed an unsuitable candidate for the exit row seat before being escorted off the plane when he protested the decision to reassign him.
MMA fans hijack airline’s social media post
As footage of the incident began circulating on social media, Khabib Nurmagomedov issued a statement that detailed his side of the story.
Frontier Airlines has not addressed Nurmagomedov’s bad experience, but they have seemingly backed their flight crew with a new social media post.
It reads: “Serving smiles at 35,000 feet and making every mile unforgettable.
“From takeoff to landing, our crew is here to ensure your journey is filled with care, comfort, and a little extra joy along the way.”
The praising post for their staff couldn’t have come at a worse time for the company.
Angry MMA fans flooded the comment section to call them out for their alleged mistreatment of one of the greatest fighters of all time.
Magomedov’s comment of three clown emojis got over 11,000 likes.
One fan said: “This caption is literally a joke.”
Another wrote: “They better do a public apology, before this goes viral.”
A third added: “Time to boycott Fly Frontier.”
Someone else promised: “We will make sure you go bankrupt.”
Khabib Nurmagomedov issues statement on flight video
In a social media statement, Nurmagomedov explained what happened when he tried to travel to corner lightweight champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 311.
“First of all, I need to clarify that it was [Frontier Airlines] and not [Alaska Airlines],” he wrote in a lengthy Instagram post
“Lady who comes to me with questions was very rude from the very beginning, even though I speak very decent English and can understand everything agreed to assist, she still insists on removing me from my seat.
“What was the base for that, racial, national or other one, I’m not sure.
“But after 2 minutes of conversation, she called security and I was deplaned from this aircraft, after [1.5 hours] I boarded another airline and left to my destination.
“I did my best to stay calm and respectful as you can see on the video. But those crew members could do better next time and just be nice with clients.”
