Group Managing Director of Finchglow Holdings Limited, Bernard Bankole, has emphasised the need for more local airlines to join the clearing house, saying the advantages are numerous. He stated this yesterday at a media event in Lagos.

According to him, the company will create strategies for more local airlines to join the clearing house, stating that it is of commercial value. Bankole who doubles as the President of the Association of Aviation Training Organisation of Nigeria (AATON) said being in the clearing house means local airlines would extend its reach.

He said there is an opportunity to save foreign exchange through clearing houses, code-sharing partnerships as well as global recognition. He said any airline that would grow should not limit itself. Bankole said the aviation cargo industry was still in disarray, stating that the company would go into cargo to change the narrative.

According to him, packaging has been a major challenge in the country. The company will approach the business through disruptive technology, he said. He said: “We want the world to see the opportunities lying in the cargo business. When we go into space we are going to disrupt the narrative and let people understand the better way of doing things.”

Bankole said almost all the states are creating airports, suggesting that the facilities can be converted to cargo airports. Also speaking, Managing Director of Travel Den, Gbenga Onitilo, said there would be a significant change with the launch of a new online travel agency (OTA).

Ontilo said the firm was working towards setting up a service call centre to cater to the needs of customers, stating that the OTA could become the lifeline of the business given its intensity.
