QUINCY (WGEM) – The Quincy Regional Airport is one step closer to a new essential air service provider.
Tuesday night, the city council approved the airport subcommittee’s recommendation that Contour will be the new airline.
Many Aldermen had questions regarding Contour’s proposal and how the subcommittee wants to start only with flights to Chicago. The hope is after six months of reliable air service that the airport can add flight options, most likely to Nashville.
“We will send an official letter to our contact at the Department of Transportation, EAS, and we will also contact the CEO of Contour,” said Quincy Mayor Mike Troup. “Let them know about the discussions tonight, and get everybody working together.”
Troup also added that the decision of who the next airline will be is now in the hands of the Department of Transportation, but the city recommendation certainly helps.
Troup also said there is no timetable as to when the new airline will start flights. However, they are hoping to get things up and running around May.
