Horizon Air flight attendants are ramping up their fight for fair compensation by filing for federal mediation, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) said.

Horizon Air is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alaska Airlines. According to the AFA, while Horizon flight attendants work for the regional airline, management at Alaska ultimately controls their pay and working conditions at Horizon, where flight attendants provide the same service as their counterparts in Alaska Airlines, while being paid significantly less.

The AFA said that so far, management has failed to offer “meaningful” pay increases for all flight attendants in the workgroup. Instead of raising the standards for regional flight attendants, management has maintained a two-tiered “regional airline” business model that the AFA said is exploitative and leaves regional flight attendants behind.
