Multiple firefighting aircraft have been deployed north of Los Angeles in LA County to counteract the spread of a new fire that has taken hold in the area.  

According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, the Hughes fire broke out on January 23, 2025, shortly before 11:00 local time, and around 13 hours later the blaze has grown to 10,176 acres. 

So far around 30,000 residents have been ordered to evacuate while a further 23,000 are on standby to leave the area at a moment’s notice.
