Serbia is looking to acquire three units of Archer Aviation’s Midnight eVTOL aircraft to be used during the Expo 2027 Belgrade, reported Serbian aviation news outlet Tango Six.
According to the report, while attending the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21, 2025, Vučić hinted that the government of the Balkan country had signed some kind of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Californian advanced air mobility firm, without providing any additional details.
In his comments, Vučić praised the safety features and built-in system redundancy of eVTOLs such as Archer’s Midnight, referring to the fact that its 12 rotors and six batteries made it “safer than a helicopter”.
According to these reports, Vučić has also instructed the country’s aviation authority, the Directorate of Civil Aviation, to have the relevant regulatory framework in place by the middle of 2026.
Vučić’s interest in showcasing eVTOL technology during Expo 2027 Belgrade, the international fair, which will take place in the Serbian capital between May-and August 2027, is not new.
Serbia is also said to be interested in acquiring Chinese eVTOLs, particularly the two-seater model made by Chinese firm EHang. This is perhaps not surprisingly given the strong diplomatic and commercial exchanges that the current Serbian government has cultivated with China.
Another country with which Serbia has strong ties in the aerospace domain is France. In April 2024 a Serbian minister stated that the country’s government was going to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus with the aim of potentially having the CityAirbus eVTOL perform demonstration flights during Expo 2027.
