Icelanders are eagerly awaiting tonight”s match at the World Handball Championship, when they will face the home team in Croatia, led by Dagur Sigurðsson.

Iceland has a full house of points in the intermediate group 4 and can secure its place in the quarter-finals tonight, but the match in Arena Zagreb starts at 19.30.

Icelandair and Play are both ready with flights to the quarter-finals, but if Iceland manages to advance, the team will continue to play in Croatia.

Eight hundred flew to Zagreb

Play has flown to Zagreb three times around the competition with a total of four hundred passengers. Birgir Olgeirsson, Play’s information officer, says that if everything goes as planned tonight, the company will need to add more return flights.

Play will fly to Zagreb on January 27 with a plane that was intended to pick up the people who are still out there watching Iceland’s intermediate group, but Olgeirsson says that the company will have to react quickly if the results go in Iceland’s favor.

He also confirms that it is still possible to book flights on the plane that leaves on January 27.

Waiting list for the quarter-finals

Guðni Sigurðsson, Icelandair’s information officer, says that almost 400 people have flown out to the World Cup with the airline. He says there has been a lot of interest in the trips and that the planes have been full to Zagreb.

Icelandair sent out a newsletter yesterday inviting people to sign up for a waiting list for flights to the quarter-finals, and Play is also on the lookout and will respond at short notice.

If Iceland advances to the semi-finals, the match will be played in Zagreb on January 30, but if the team advances to the final, the match will be played in Oslo on February 2.
