cancelled 128 flights across February and March 2025, but CEO Liza Ng denied this was due to financial problems. Speaking at a Hong Kong media conference on January 22, she attributed the cancellations to multiple factors including aircraft delivery delays, overambitious scheduling, and the temporary grounding of two existing aircraft for inspections and scheduled maintenance.

“The suspension of flight services is not because of our operational or financial problems,” Ng stated. She revealed that an internal investigation found “negligence” in the flight scheduling process, leading to an overestimation of the airline’s capacity.

Flights during the Lunar New Year period will remain unaffected, she assured.

“I have to admit that we failed to make the ideal flight scheduling,” Ng added.

Mable Chan, Hong Kong’s secretary for transport and logistics, requested Greater Bay Airlines to submit a report on the cancellations. Preliminary data has already been provided, with a detailed report due within a week. Chan emphasised that Hong Kong has regular communication and financial reporting protocols in place to protect passenger interests. Approximately 5,500 passengers have been affected by the cancellations.

According to ch-aviation fleets data, Greater Bay Airlines serves 15 airports across seven countries with a fleet of eight B737-800s. The carrier has also placed an order for fifteen B737-9 aircraft, which were originally expected to begin arriving in August 2024. Delays at Boeing have pushed the first delivery to the third quarter of 2025, with subsequent aircraft arriving at a rate of two to three per year. Ng said the delays had disrupted flight schedules for the coming months.

Separately, Ng confirmed that Greater Bay Airlines would discontinue its daily roundtrip flights between Hong Kong and Seoul Incheon. She said the route had underperformed and that the relevant authorities in Hong Kong and South Korea had been notified. The airline has yet to announce the exact date the flights will cease.
