Airlines operating from MIA set to increase seat capacity

Mangaluru: With the increase in demand for more domestic and international routes, flight carriers operating from Mangaluru International Airport have planned to increase capacity by deploying Airbus A321 aircraft.
IndiGo, which was operating aircraft with only 186 seats to Abu Dhabi, plans to increase seats from this summer schedule, a move that is likely to reduce fares. The carrier will increase seat capacity for three flights to Mumbai and one flight to Delhi, starting February.
The flight carrier will deploy a 232-seater aircraft for all its three daily flights to Mumbai from Mangaluru from Feb 1. Similarly, it has also enhanced seat capacity for Delhi from February. It will also enhance seat capacity to Bengaluru in the summer schedule. Currently, it deploys narrow bodies and ATR aircraft on these routes.
Commenting on the seat enhancement, a senior executive from IndiGo said that based on passenger demand and the availability of aircraft, the flight carrier enhances seat capacity on the routes. It did so in the past. “We are yet to receive official communications on the seat enhancement,” the executive said.
Due to Aero India 2025 in Bengaluru, IndiGo will temporarily reduce the flights between Mangaluru and Bengaluru to four daily for the period Feb 5 to Feb14. Passengers have been asked to check the schedule.
Air India Express too is planning to enhance capacity to Bengaluru in March. Sources also added that AIE plans to start its second daily flight service to Bengaluru starting March 1, and bookings will open soon. There is also a demand to extend domestic flight services from Mangaluru to other destinations. Fulfilling one of the high-demand routes, AIE will offer one-way, same-flight connectivity (same PNR and flight number) to Bagdogra via Delhi daily. A spokesperson from AIE was not available for confirmation.
Meanwhile, aviation enthusiasts demand direct domestic services to West Bengal or Assam, as there is a large student population from northeast India. “It will help the student fraternity to reach home faster and more conveniently,” shared an aviation enthusiast.
