January 26, (THEWILL) – A Turkish Airlines flight carrying 259 passengers from Entebbe International Airport, Uganda, to Istanbul, Turkey, has made an emergency landing after encountering safety concerns.

The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) said in a statement that the A333 aircraft, number TK 612, departed Entebbe International Airport for Istanbul on Sunday at about 7:14 a.m. with “269 people onboard, was unable to proceed to its final destination due to safety precautions.”

UCAA Spokesperson, Mr Vianney Luggya, who confirmed the incident, said the aircraft returned to Entebbe International Airport and landed safely at 10:50 am after circling Ugandan airspace for over three hours to reduce fuel to the required safe landing weight.

“All passengers and crew were safely disembarked. The precautionary measures taken are standard safety procedures in the aviation industry”, he added.
