Air Transat is the latest airline to make changes to its carry-on baggage policies.

Starting today (Feb. 11), the company said Canadian customers booking flights within Canada, to the United States or destinations further south (except Peru) with an Eco Budget and Eco Standard fare may have to pay additional fees.

For those with an Eco Budget or promo fare, carry-on baggage will have to be checked, and applicable fees will be added.

Only a personal item is permitted on board for free, with the maximum dimensions of 17 by 12 inches and five inches wide.

It’s meant to be similar in size to a purse or a computer bag.

For those booking an Eco Standard fare, there will be an added fee for checked baggage. One carry-on and personal item are still permitted on board.

Adding a carry-on bag to your booked flight reservation is not possible at the airport — those will have to be checked and fees paid.

The first pre-checked bag fee for a flight to Fort Myers, Fla. will cost you $42 with Eco Budget or Eco Standard, or $53 if you pay to check it 24 hours before your flight.

If you fly in to Cayo Coco, Cuba, the first checked bag will cost $35 if you pay in advance, or $45 if you pay at the gate.

The new changes are only for customers booking flights now. For those with reservations already booked, the previous rules apply.

Pet owners can rest assured the new policy does not impact the transport of pets in the cabin.

It also doesn’t apply to those bringing medical equipment, which will still be accepted as carry-on baggage, as long as it meets the permitted dimensions.

Back in January, Air Canada announced it was ending free carry-on bag service for its lowest-priced fares, starting Jan. 4.
