LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Lincoln Airport (LNK) is continuing to grow their aeronautical tenants with the addition of a new maintenance facility in their industrial park.
In December, the Lincoln Airport’s Board of Directors approved a three-year lease agreement with SkyWest Airlines. The SkyWest maintenance hangar will create an estimated 25 new aviation maintenance jobs, along with additional support personnel in the Lincoln area.
The maintenance facility will also be capable of servicing several aircraft simultaneously. LNK said this expansion will further strengthen SkyWest’s maintenance operation and support their fleet that provides more than 2,300 daily flights across North America.
“We are looking forward to expanding our maintenance operation with the addition of Lincoln to continue supporting SkyWest’s high standards of safety and reliability,” Joe Sigg, SkyWest’s maintenance vice president, said. “We also appreciate the support we’ve seen from the community and are excited to bring new opportunities for A&P mechanics to our hangar at LNK.”
SkyWest maintains a fleet of nearly 500 regional aircrafts. They also operate flights in and out of Lincoln for United Airlines to Chicago and Denver daily.
“Adding a maintenance base to LNK is a great tool to help us improve air service and one that can bring big economic benefits to our community” David Haring, the executive director of the Lincoln Airport Authority, said.
The addition of SkyWest’s maintenance facility reinforces LNK’s position as a strategic location for aviation maintenance in the Midwest and its growing economy, according to the airport.
“We are thrilled to welcome SkyWest Airlines maintenance team to Lincoln,” John Olsson, LNK board chair, said. “This investment not only brings skilled jobs to our community but also strengthens Lincoln’s growing reputation as a center for aviation excellence. Growth of aviation can come in many forms, and with the addition of SkyWest coming to Lincoln we have reinforced the value of our facilities.”
SkyWest will be occupying half of one of LNK’s large hangars that sits on the west side of the airport. The hangar is one of the two former Air Force hangars that had been once occupied by Goodyear distribution centers and most recently Lincoln Industries.
