A Japan Airlines plane collided with a stationary Delta Air Lines aircraft at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) on Wednesday morning. There was no mention that the crash was caused by or related to DEI hires as Trump has said about other incidents. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) provided an initial statement regarding the incident:
“This information is preliminary and subject to change. At approximately 10:40 a.m. local time on February 5, the right wing of Japan Airlines Flight 68 struck the tail of Delta Air Lines Flight 1921 while both planes were taxiing in an area not under air traffic control. Consequently, the FAA temporarily halted some flights to the airport.”
According to SEA Airport, the incident occurred at around 10:17 a.m. between the S Concourse and the southern maintenance hangars. The airport noted via social media that an inbound Japan Airlines flight “appears to have struck the tail of a parked Delta Air Lines aircraft” while on the ramp. A spokesperson for Delta reported that the Boeing 737 was bound for Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, carrying 142 passengers.
SEA Airport is working closely with both airlines to ensure the safe disembarkation of passengers and their transportation to the terminal. The airport indicated that operations were minimally affected since the collision took place on a taxi lane. Passengers scheduled to fly that day are advised to check for updates with their respective airlines. Those onboard the Delta flight waited for approximately two hours before being escorted down the stairs and bussed to the terminal.
Delta Airlines released a statement saying, “While in sequence for deicing, the tail of a Delta 737 aircraft reportedly made contact with a wingtip of another airline’s aircraft. There are no reports of injuries among crew or passengers, and we apologize for the experience and delay in travel.” Delta is committed to collaborating with all aviation stakeholders for a thorough investigation.
