February the 15th, 2025 – The national air carrier Croatia Airlines is set to bring in an additional five routes from Zagreb as part of its summer schedule.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Croatia Airlines is planning to attempt to improve its operations this summer by increasing frequencies on selected routes. In addition, the company is set to significantly increase its passenger capacities by adding more Airbus A220 aircraft.

Croatia Airlines will therefore introduce 5 new routes from Zagreb Airport for this summer season. As previously announced, these new additions are primarily a continuation of city routes that were served before the coronavirus pandemic took hold back in 2020. The national carrier will therefore (re)introduce regular operations to Milan Malpensa, Prague, Bucharest, Madrid and Hamburg.

In connection with the launch of these new routes from Zagreb, the carrier plans to operate an additional 27 to 33 weekly departures from Croatia between April and October. This will add between 7,900 and 9,900 outbound seats per week during the summer season. However, the precise delivery date of the six A220 aircraft, which are due to arrive over the next ten months, could lead to further adjustments, warns Ex-Yu Aviation News.

Several summer routes will resume earlier than usual this year, as well. Flights from Zagreb to Berlin and Stockholm, which were introduced on the 20th of May last year, will be re-established on the 1st and 2nd of April, respectively.

Meanwhile, services between Zagreb and Tirana will resume on the 25th of May, ahead of the previous schedule of the 14th of June. Several routes will see increased frequency during the peak summer travel season. Split – Istanbul will resume on the 6th of May with five weekly rotations, instead of three.

Zagreb – Barcelona will increase from three to four weekly flights, while Split – Oslo and Split – Berlin will double from one to two weekly. In addition, Dubrovnik – Prague will expand from one to two weekly routes, and Dubrovnik – Zurich from four to five weekly rotations.

The A220 planes will replace selected flights currently operated by Dash 8 turboprops, which are being phased out. The most significant capacity increase will be along the Zagreb – Split route, although the actual frequencies will remain largely unchanged as things stand.

Croatia Airlines has its hands full contending with the wildly popular Irish airline Ryanair, which has experienced roaring success after setting up its Zagreb base. The Irish carrier has connected the Croatian capital city’s airport with an enormous array of destinations Europe-wide, and it seems extremely unlikely that any other company could provide the ease and cheapness of Ryanair.
