The Alaska Air Group, which includes Alaska Airlines
, Hawaiian Airlines, and Horizon Air, has detailed its fleet plan for 2025. This includes the fact that it does not expect to receive its first Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft until at least 2026.
Retiring and taking delivery of aircraft
In a United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing, Alaska Air Group detailed that it ended 2024 with 392 aircraft across the group, which includes Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines
, Horizon Air, and aircraft operated by third-party regional carriers.
In 2024, Alaska Airlines took delivery of one 737-800 converted freighter, four 737 MAX 8
jets , and seven 737 MAX 9 aircraft while halving its 737-900 fleet, ending the year with six aircraft of the type. Meanwhile, Hawaiian Airlines welcomed five Airbus A330-300F cargo aircraft in 2024. It has been operating these on behalf of Amazon under the Air Transportation Services Agreement (ATSA) the two companies signed in October 2022.

During the year, Hawaiian Airlines also introduced the Boeing 787-9 into its services, welcoming the first aircraft of the type, registered as N781HA, on February 9, 2024, per ch-aviation‘s records. The aircraft subsequently went on to welcome commercial passengers for the first time in April 2024. Lastly, Horizon Air
welcomed three Embraer E175 regional jets, representing the only change to Alaska Air Group’s regional fleet composition throughout the year.

Alaska Airlines should take delivery of 17 aircraft in 2025: nine 737 MAX 8s and eight 737 MAX 9
jets. However, the airline anticipates that Boeing will only deliver the first 737 MAX 10
to the carrier in 2026. Meanwhile, 2025 should be the last year for the 737-900
in Alaska Airlines’ fleet.
“Boeing has communicated that certain B737 and B787-9 aircraft are expected to be delivered later than the contracted delivery timing. For Alaska, this includes B737-9 aircraft contracted for delivery in 2024 that have been moved to 2025, certain B737-8 aircraft contracted for delivery in 2024 and 2025 that have been moved later in the contracted year or into the year following the contracted delivery, and certain B737-10 aircraft contracted for delivery in 2025 and 2026 that have been moved to 2026 or 2027, pending certification of the aircraft type.”
Hawaiian Airlines should add four A330-300Fs in 2025, which would enable the airline to fulfill its ATSA contract with Amazon (the e-commerce company has the option to expand the fleet) and three 787-9
aircraft.

Meanwhile, Horizon Air should take delivery of three E175s
, while the group, through a capacity purchase agreement (CPA), should add another E175, totaling four deliveries of the regional jet. The planned deliveries, which reflected updates from Boeing and management’s internal expectations, should increase the group’s total fleet to 414 aircraft by the end of 2025, compared to 392 at the end of 2024.

Modest capacity growth
At the same time, the SEC filing detailed that, despite the fleet growing substantially, Alaska Air Group plans to grow its capacity by just 2% to 3% year-on-year (YoY) compared to the combined group and Hawaiian Airlines capacity in 2024.
“In addition to growth in revenue and expenses due to the impact of Hawaiian on Air Group results for the full year, 2025 results will be impacted by other factors throughout the year.”
The company’s executives expect revenue improvements to stem from continued strength in leisure and corporate markets and from network and loyalty synergies as the integration of Hawaiian Airlines continues.

“Wage rate increases stemming from new labor agreements and rising costs at airports in which we operate will drive cost pressures during the year, but we anticipate some benefit from synergy capture in the second half of the year.”
The Alaska Air Group, which announced its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines in December 2023, completed the process in September 2024, shortly after the Department of Transportation (DOT) finally approved the transaction. This came about after the group had agreed to implement remedy measures to ensure competitiveness in certain markets.
