An American Airlines flight traveling from New York to Delhi was diverted to Rome on Sunday after it received an email bomb threat. Flight AA 292, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, had departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport on February 22. The plane had crossed the Caspian Sea before turning towards Europe after the security threat.
The diversion was confirmed by the airline in a statement, which said, “AA 292, which was flying from New York to Delhi, has been diverted to Rome because of a possible security threat on board.” The aircraft was to be subjected to a full security screening after it arrived in Rome. The flight would resume its travel to Delhi once it is cleared by local authorities.
American Airlines assured the public and travelers that the matter is being watched closely in coordination with local law enforcement authorities.
