The Cirium data revealed that the carrier previously used its Boeing 757-200 aircraft for one of its seven weekly flights. Now, United Airlines will replace the 757-200 with the Boeing 767-300ER, a widebody aircraft, ultimately increasing overall capacity on the transatlantic route between Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Lisbon Airport (LIS).

United’s schedule to Lisbon
United Airlines has a strong network connecting the United States and Portugal, with Lisbon being the most connected city in the country.
According to Cirium data, the Chicago-based airline offers flights to Lisbon from both Washington and New York Newark International Airport (EWR). The Newark (EWR) to Lisbon (LIS) route is operated daily using the carrier’s fleet of Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners.

Notably, the carrier’s Boeing 787-10s can seat up to 318 passengers in a four-class cabin: 199 in economy, 54 in economy plus, 21 in premium economy, and 44 in business class. As a result, the EWR to LIS route offers more capacity than the IAD to LIS corridor, with 9,858 seats served.
However, United Airlines is not the only carrier offering service between Newark (EWR) and Lisbon (LIS) or Washington (IAD) and Lisbon (LIS). TAP Air Portugal, the country’s national airline, also operates flights on these routes but with a different fleet of aircraft. TAP Air Portugal typically deploys its Airbus A321LR narrowbody aircraft on both routes.
