Southwest Airlines is receiving a ton of online hate while trying to deflect from an extremely unpopular policy change they recently announced. In case you missed it, the airline that said it would never charge you to check a bag just pulled a politician and walked back on their position. Now, you can expect to pony up when you check your bags.
The thing is, there are many people out there who flew Southwest exclusively because they didn’t charge them to pay to check their bags. I have a feeling those people are rethinking their loyalty.

So yeah, much like the Dallas Mavericks, who traded away the future in superstar Luka Doncic, Southwest Airlines is in the middle of a public relations disaster. And they’re handling it just about as poorly as the Mavericks have been.
Well, for whatever reason, someone in charge of their social media accounts thought it would be a good idea to downplay their decision by posting “It’s not like we traded Luka” on Instagram.
I hate to point it out to them that even though their home base is in Dallas, not everyone who flies on their airline is a Mavs fan. So, a whole lot of their loyal customers couldn’t care less about the Luka trade. Not to mention, it’s an apples-to-oranges comparison anyway.
Maybe instead of trying to deflect, they should own up to the fact they made a poor decision and either reverse it or stay the course and see what happens. Who knows? Maybe the people complaining about it online are truly the vocal minority and the financial hit they’re about to take will be minimal.
However, I highly doubt that’s the case.
