Yesterday, around 5:00 pm local time, a new occurrence happened in the United States. The flight operated by American Airlines with a Boeing 737/823, registration N885NN, departed from the municipal airport of Colorado Springs and was originally bound for Dallas, had to change route to Denver. Shortly after takeoff the crew reported an “engine vibration”, leading to the decision to divert the aircraft to the international airport of Denver. Once it reached the gate, one of the engines suddenly caught fire.

Fortunately, all 178 occupants (172 passengers and 6 crewmembers) managed to safely abandon the aircraft. According to local press reports, around ten people were taken to hospital for checks and some with minor injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA, the US authority that oversees civil aviation) has opened an investigation to clarify the causes of the accident.
