Kazakhstan’s largest private airline, SCAT Airlines, is expanding its European network with a new direct flight route from Munich to Shymkent. Starting May 27, 2025, the airline will operate flights three times a week—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—offering a six-hour connection between Germany and southern Kazakhstan.
Shymkent, the third-largest city in Kazakhstan, serves as the main hub for SCAT Airlines. From there, the airline provides connections to various destinations across Central and Southeast Asia using its modern Boeing fleet. This new Munich route marks a significant step in strengthening air travel links between Europe and Central Asia.
For Munich Airport, this addition represents the third direct route to Central Asia, complementing existing flights to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The new service is expected to boost economic cooperation between Bavaria and Kazakhstan, which have long-standing trade relations, particularly in the energy and raw materials sectors. Additionally, an increasing number of Bavarian companies have established production facilities in Kazakhstan, further enhancing business ties.
Beyond economic benefits, the new route also fosters cultural exchange. EU citizens can visit Kazakhstan visa-free for up to 30 days, making Shymkent an accessible gateway for travelers eager to explore the country’s rich history, diverse landscapes, and vibrant traditions. Strategically located in the south, the city provides a convenient starting point for broader travel within the region.
With nearly three decades in the aviation industry, SCAT Airlines continues to grow its international presence. The introduction of flights to Munich marks a key milestone in the airline’s European expansion, providing travelers with more options to connect between Germany and Kazakhstan.
