Assuming that people still make New Year’s resolutions, it’s usually around now that the enthusiasm for change starts to wane, and little by little, the habits creep back. For those who have decided to clean up their nutrition, American Airlines is on your team, with a range of healthy dining options and some tasty beverages if you have opted for a Dry January.
How to keep those resolutions alive with American
On Wednesday, American Airlines (American) announced it would help its customers stay active and healthy while traveling, even if they had already abandoned their 2025 New Year’s resolutions. Leaving diet aside for a minute, staying physically and mentally healthy involves connecting with the great outdoors.

A good starting point is to look at some of the routes American has added for customers looking for adventure travel with new flight options. Out of the many routes that fit that bill, American has suggested patrons look at:
- Get lost under the stars in Nova Scotia’s Mi’kmaq Lands with a glimpse into the universe on new services from Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to Halifax Stanfield (YHZ) in Canada.
- Pack the walking shoes and get close to the glaciers near Kalispell, Montana (FCA) or Calgary, Canada (YYC) on new flights from New York LaGuardia (LGA).
- Experience some amazing wildlife after a flight to Bozeman Yellowstone International (BZN), Montana, from New York LaGuardia.
- Relax with some leaf peeping in Quebec City, Canada (YQB), with a new service from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW).

For those who prefer a cold beer, American was the first major airline to serve Athletic Brewing non-alcoholic beer in its lounges, which has become a popular choice year-round since 2022.
There is no shortage of healthy onboard dining choices
Offering healthy meal choices and catering to various diets and lifestyles has been a specialty of American for more than 30 years. This is a bonus for the estimated 30% of Americans avoiding gluten and the 15% opting for dairy-free choices. Each year, American serves more than one million of these special meals onboard its flights. American’s Vice President of Customer Experience, Kim Cisek, said:
“Our health-forward dishes are made to taste great while also supporting fluid intake, aiding digestion, and being rich in nutrients. At American, we want our passengers to arrive at their final destinations feeling fulfilled and refreshed so they can enjoy whatever adventures lie ahead.

In addition to serving oat milk creamer and La Croix Lime sparkling water, American’s menu options include vegetarian, vegan, kosher, lactose-free, Muslim, Hindu, diabetic and gluten-free meals. The best way to ensure these are available is to pre-order, along with the full onboard menu, before the flight.
Some tips for a relaxing and enjoyable inflight experience
Following American’s options for those pre-flight beverages and onboard dining options will go a long way to a healthy journey, but the airline also has some tips for counteracting the extended periods of sitting. Through its partnership with the FitOn fitness app, American’s free inflight entertainment provides travelers with several guided stretching videos and meditation practices.
These practices are designed to bring down heart rates with controlled breathing exercises, so their value extends well beyond just the flight with American Airlines. On this point, Cisek added that sitting for an extended period, especially on longer flights, can lead to muscle stiffness and poor circulation—all of which can be prevented with a few simple stretches done from the comfort of your seat.
“On your next flight with American, take a few moments to release the tightness and tension in your neck, low back and hips. Doing so will make your journey that much more enjoyable.”
Irrespective of your inclination to make New Year’s resolutions or consign them to the bin early, American is giving all its customers some options and sound advice for arriving at their destination in good shape.
